Mañosa had his creative base in Berlin until 2009, from where he returned to the family workshop, located in an old industrial estate in Barcelona. He collaborated with Berlin-based design duo Hande Akçayli and Murat Koçyigit of Mashallah.
Catalan ceramicist Xavier Mañosa founded Apparatu only five years ago and, in that short space of time, he has become one of the most up and coming ceramicists of his generation. He returned to the trade of his parents after rejecting it as he trained as an industrial designer in Berlin. Having this space away and combining it with an eagerness to experiment with the new knowledge of his studies is how he came full circle to embrace the trade he grew up with. What fundamentally distinguishes Mañosa as a modern-day ceramicist is his boldness when it comes to combining different materials and to exploring new forms of expression.
