A mixing of old and new, vintage and contemporary pieces was key for designer Alana John when approaching the restoration of the iconic heritage-listed Unalla residence in Peppermint Grove. The 118-year-old home has been returned to its former glory, complemented by a new addition on an adjacent block.
Built in 1903 by prominent architect Charles Oldham, Unalla is one of Western Australia’s premiere examples of a Federation Queen Anne home. It originally sat on a larger block, which was later subdivided; the smaller of the two sitting vacant until Alana John brought them back together in a feat of design that straddles two centuries.
