Interviews
16.05.2022Where in the world do we find you?
During the week, you’ll find me in South Yarra, Victoria. On weekends, I’ll often retreat to our home in Daylesford. The town is adjacent to Hepburn Springs in Victoria and has outstanding local produce. We love entertaining guests there.
What is your favourite room at home?
My living room, which overlooks century-old elm trees.
Any must-read books?
A Little Life, Invisible Cities, Animal Farm, Perfume, Room and Fabulous Nobodies, to name a few.
Where do you like to eat out?
Bistro Gitan, Cicciolina, Di Stasio Citta and my favourite, Da Noi (a Sardinian restaurant with an ever-changing menu that utilises the best fresh produce available).
What is on your playlist?
Duality of Pulp, Pixies, Elastica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blur mixed with Sarah Blasko, Kylie (Minogue that is) and Eurovision favourites.
An up-and-coming designer to watch?
Not sure if I would say he is up-and-coming, yet we need to see more of Raphael Navot’s wonder.
Some of the designers or movements that inspire you?
Bauhaus, the Industrial Revolution, Modernism, Art Deco and Neo-Plasticism.
Your favourite building or architect?
Luis Barragan’s San Cristobal Stable & Egerstrom House. I was lucky enough to have the property to myself while I was touring Mexico– the calmness, architecture and interior design is good for the soul.
A piece of furniture you own and love?
My Isamu Noguchi Cyclone dining table and styling-wise my Stelton collection, which has many pieces by Arne Jacobsen.
An important iconic furniture piece you covet?
Cassina’s 838 Veliero Bookshelf by Franco Albini…. (also Cassina’s Elling Buffet sideboard by Gerrit Rietveld, amongst many others).
Three designers you would take with you to a deserted island?
Charlotte Perriand, Shigeru Ban and Dieter Rams.
What first comes to mind when you think of Australia?
Ever changing, naturally stunning and multi-cultural, wonderful.
Can you share what you are working on at the moment?
Amongst the residential pleasures practised at Golden, we are working on Mobilia’s Melbourne location, setting the scene for their spectacular collections.
