For 10 years, Design Circus has brought some of the world's most influential designers to Perth, and in 2024 it continued with Patricia Urquiola taking centre stage.
The VL50 – an annual list of Australia’s most exciting creative design talent – was celebrated at the inaugural awards ceremony in February, proudly presented by Mobilia.

Almost a quarter of a century after her passing, Charlotte Perriand’s work still commands attention. Six original drawings by the prodigious French architect and designer have been translated into a new collection of hand-knotted rugs by CC-Tapis, presented in an exhibition during Paris Design Week 2023.
The world of Bethan Laura Wood is defined by a love of pattern, a talent for teasing many threads out of single ideas, and, importantly, great respect for the unique capabilities of both artisan and industrial modes of production. Since starting her multidisciplinary studio in 2009, she has worked on a number of major brand collaborations with the likes of Moroso, Cassina and CC-Tapis, as well as others outside of the design world with brands such as Hermès and champagne house Perrier-Jouët. We sat down with Bethan to learn more about her practise and unique approach to design.
Luciano Baldessari (1896–1982) was one of the leading creatives of the 20th century, making significant contributions to the growth of Italian art, architecture, and set design. His career began in the early 1900s as an artist and participant in the Futurist movement, along with his peers, including multi-disciplinary artist Fortunato Depero. He then studied architecture at Milan Polytechnic and was ultimately responsible for designing several influential buildings and artworks throughout his career. Some of Baldessari’s best-known works include the ultimate futurist lamp, the 'Luminator', and the Breda pavilions at the Milan International Fair.
